In days gone by, professional golfers toured the country playing matches for money, and Cleeve Hill hosted many of the golf’s biggest names in the early twentieth century.
It seems a quaint idea in the era of LIV and PIF, but as part of the Cleeve Festival, we are delighted to promote a good old-fashioned money game featuring four professional players with impeccable ball-striking credentials:

The four players have all teed it up in the Open Championship and boast nearly 500 European Tour starts between them. And to help them show off the full range of skills, each player will be using pre-2002 equipment – no jumbo drivers or modern hybrids.
Everyone is invited to join us at 3pm on Sunday 18 June to walk the fairways, watching these great players at work while enjoying drinks and refreshments from our faithful Land Rover Eric. And we’ll be working with our friends from Cookie Jar Golf to record the match for an audience of golf fans who can’t make it on the day.
Scott Drummond burst onto the professional scene in 2004, claiming the European Tour’s flagship PGA Championship at Wentworth and earning the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year title. He’s played more that 200 European Tour starts and played in the Open Championship four times, including a top 25 finish at St Andrews in 2005, as well as representing Scotland in the World Cup in 2004 and 2005.
David Griffiths won the Carris Trophy and captained the England Boys team as an amateur, before turning pro and heading to the USA, where he qualified for the Nationwide Tour. He has made 117 starts on the European Tour, including the 2004 Open Championship at Royal Troon, and recorded top three finishes at the Portuguese Open and the Andalucian Open.
Adam Frayne represented England at every age group from the age of 14 until he turned professional. He went on to win the Portuguese Masters on the EuroPro Tour, and played in the 2006 Open Championship at Hoylake.
Andrew Marshall has played more than 250 events on the European Tour, with eight top ten finishes earning him more than €1.6m in prize money. He’s won twice the EuroPro Tour and twice on the Mean Tour, and played in the 2006 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
