"Royal West Norfolk... is so low-lying that the entrance drive to the club is flooded by high-tides twice a day, and the members of the club have to keep tide tables handy to know when they are free to come and go... if ever there was a course where one doesn't mind being cut off from the outside world for a few hours, Brancaster is it."
Tom Doak, The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses (Volume 1)
Royal West Norfolk, known locally as Brancaster after the village on the north Norfolk coast where the club is located, is one England's great golf clubs.
Nothing much has changed here since the course was laid out in the dunes between a salt marsh and the sea back in 1892. The course plays out and back along a spit of land intersected by tidal inlets, creating a series of stunning links holes that demand heroic carries over the water, as well as deep revetted bunkers, fast undulating greens and blind shots to hidden fairways.
This most traditional of clubs retains a strict two-ball policy, which means we'll be hosting a 36-hole foresomes event to wrap up the 2022 Sounder season. The alternate shot format helps to ensure everyone gets round the course in no more than three hours, giving everyone plenty of time to enjoy one another's company in the historic clubhouse.
Enter as a pair or let us find you a partner from the Sounder community. And if the promise of 36 holes of classic links golf isn't enough to tempt you, we'll also have prizes and some exclusive Sounder goodies for everyone who joins us.
