Last month the Sounder crew headed up to the West Coast of Scotland.
We couldn’t have wished for better weather to shoot both on and off the course, and we received an incredibly warm welcome from everyone in this beautiful and remote community.
We enjoyed the classic historic links of Machrihanish Golf Club and David McLay Kidd’s minimalist masterpiece Machrihanish Dunes, as well as the lesser known Dunaverty, a hidden gem at the very tip of the Mull of Kintyre.
But we also found time to indulge in one of our favourite pastimes – creating a fiendish par 3 course to examine the sharpest of short games.
Back in January, we wrote up our 21 resolutions for 2021, which included number 17:
To find a field and create a markshift par-3 course for the day. All the fun of pitch and putt, with the added fun of playing architect and greenkeeper too
So it gives us great pleasure to share this hole-by-hole guide to Patchrihanish – the patch at Machrihanish – introduced by architect and course record holder* James Chappell.
* An impressive 2-under par 13
