Product details

Any fan of great forged blades should be a fan of the Maxfli Australian blade. These beauties when through lots of iterations from the late sixties until this set, which was the last forged iron made by Maxfli, back in 1996.

Here's what Tad Moore, one of the all-time great clubmakers, said when he worked at Maxfli during the nineties.

"These irons were made at Hoffman Foundry just outside Memphis. They were very good to work with. The original heads I made at the tour shop in Kobe Japan offices of Dunlop Japan. I was asked in 1990 to develop irons, wedges and make a few persimmon drivers. All these were made in that great shop. I then transferred iron head masters to Hoffman. The drivers were all made in Japan. I had one Tour win with David Frost. Enjoy these irons... they are sweet!"

I honestly believe that the shape of these heads can't be beaten - they are just perfect, and beautiful to look at. They have traditional lofts and relatively light heads, so I had to to build them with longer shafts - the six iron is a standard length but with the loft of a seven irons. You'll be hitting more club than your pals using modern jacked lofts, but check your ego at the door and enjoy the sensation of playing with real blades.

I debated how to build these, but in the end I settled on my personal spec - these are too pretty for me to resist taking them onto the cause. The paint fill and BBF ferrules follow the Aussie theme.
