Our resolution for 2022: be more like Eric

Meet Eric - a golfer, a caddie, a musician and a gentleman. When we visited the west coast of Scotland back in the summer, he was there to guide us around the magical links of Machrihanish, Machrihanish Dunes and Dunaverty - but also to remind us of why we play the game in the first place...
Our resolution for 2022: be more like Eric

This time last year, we published our resolutions for 2021. Despite lockdowns and travel restrictions, we were lucky enough to tick off a fair few - getting out to share the game we love with old friends and like-minded strangers.

One of the highlights of the year was making the long trip to Machrihanish. As well as great company and fantastic golf courses, we were blessed with incredible weather - and an inspirational local guide to show us around.

Eric is a member of all three local clubs - Machrihanish, Machrihaninsh Dunes and Dunaverty. He’s also a caddie, who loves sharing the secrets of these magical courses with visitors from all over the world.

But most importantly of all, Eric is a wonderful person. A classical musician who loves golf and loves life. He’s retired to a beautiful part of the world, where he genuinely gets as much pleasure from watching others hit great golf shots as he does from hitting his own. (And don’t be fooled by his grey hair or false modesty - he can still get it around with the best of them).

So our resolution for 2021 is simple. To remember that it’s just a game. To be thankful every time we get to tee it up - whether on a world-class links or at the local pitch & putt. To meet with Triumph and Disaster, and to treat those two imposters just the same.

To be more like Eric.
